Terms of service
Last updated October 16, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Stoke Software (“Stoke”, “we”) for using Stoke, its website and its app. By creating an account, you agree to them. If you use Stoke for a business, you agree on its behalf.
1. What Stoke is
Stoke shows creators who pays them across the Stripe accounts they connect, suggests people to reach out to, and sends the notes the creator approves from their own Gmail. Stoke reports on your data. It isn’t accounting, tax or financial advice, and its figures can differ from Stripe’s own reports.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract.
- Keep your sign-in secure. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
- Only connect Stripe accounts, Gmail accounts and Substack exports that you own or are allowed to use.
3. Plans and payment
- Plans are priced by your number of paying customers a month, as shown on the pricing page. Paid plans start with a 30-day free trial; if you don’t cancel before it ends, they’re billed monthly or yearly in advance, in US dollars, and renew automatically until you cancel.
- Prices don’t include taxes. We add sales tax or VAT where the law requires it.
- We’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before a price change affects you.
- If a payment fails, we’ll retry it and email you. If it still fails, we may pause paid features.
- Cancelling and refunds follow our refund and cancellation policy.
4. Your data and your readers
- You own your data, including your readers’ and customers’ details. You let us process it only to run Stoke for you, as described in our privacy policy.
- For your readers’ details, you decide whom to contact and why. You’re responsible for having the right to contact them, under the laws that apply to you and them.
- You can delete your account and data at any time from Settings.
5. Acceptable use and sending rules
Stoke is for personal notes to people who already have a relationship with you. When you send through Stoke:
- Only write to people who have paid you or subscribed to you.
- Identify yourself, and don’t use misleading subject lines or sender details.
- If someone asks you not to email them again, stop. Follow anti-spam laws that apply to you, such as CAN-SPAM in the US, CASL in Canada, and the GDPR and ePrivacy rules in the EU and UK.
- Stay within Gmail’s sending limits and Google’s policies.
And never use Stoke to:
- send bulk, unsolicited or purchased-list email, or harass anyone;
- break the law, or the terms of Stripe, Google or Substack;
- try to reach another user’s data, probe or overload Stoke, or get around its limits;
- resell Stoke or its data without our written permission.
We may suspend sending, or your account, if we believe these rules are being broken. Where we can, we’ll tell you first.
6. Other services
Stoke connects to Stripe, Google (Gmail) and Substack, and uses Auth0 for sign-in. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we aren’t responsible for their availability or changes. Stoke isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Substack, Stripe or Google.
7. Changes to Stoke
We keep improving Stoke, and may add, change or remove features. If we remove something significant from a paid plan, we’ll tell you in advance, and you can cancel with a prorated refund.
8. Ending the agreement
- You can stop using Stoke and delete your account at any time.
- We can end these terms with 30 days’ notice, or straight away if you seriously break them. If we end them without cause, we’ll refund any prepaid, unused period.
- When your account ends, we delete your data as described in the privacy policy.
9. Disclaimers
Stoke is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work hard to keep it accurate and running, but we don’t promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its figures will match other reports. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or revenue. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid Stoke in the 12 months before the claim, or US$100. None of this limits liability that can’t be limited by law.
11. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of the content you send through Stoke, or your breach of section 5, you’ll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and disputes will be heard in its courts, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them there.
13. Changes to these terms
We’ll update the date at the top when we change these terms, and email you at least 30 days before a material change takes effect. Continuing to use Stoke after that means you accept the new terms.
